In 1892, the United States Supreme Court declared that America is a Christian nation, and many U.S. presidents have echoed this sentiment over the years. However, professing Christians are on the decline. According to the Pew Research Center, only 70 percent of Americans identified as Christian in 2014, a decrease of 16 percent from 1990. This alarming trend indicates a growing number of people turning away from God.
The decline in Christianity isn’t just because younger Americans are moving away from faith—we’ve forgotten our history.
The concepts behind our nation’s foundational document, the Constitution, can be traced back to our forefathers’ deep understanding of God’s Word. But it’s easy to be ignorant of history when there is a deliberate effort to rewrite and destroy it. For example, numerous monuments from the Civil War period have been taken down. But like it or not, history is history and cannot be rewritten based on opinion.
It can be tempting to accept the world’s narrative of tolerance even when it goes against God’s will. But as believers, we are called to speak the truth in love and lead people to a relationship with the Father. To do this, we must be willing to stand strong no matter what opposition we face.
We must rise above the fear of rejection. If someone takes offense when we speak the truth, they aren’t rejecting us; they are rejecting Jesus.
He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
Luke 10:16
So what do we have to lose?
If we want to reignite our communities with a biblical worldview, we need to step out and be proactive. We can minister to those who are struggling, guide those who are lost, and correct those who are doing wrong. Being proactive means creating opportunities, not just waiting for one to come across your path. We are in a spiritual war. And when you’re at war, you don’t have the luxury of waiting.
The trend of political correctness and so-called tolerance is a direct result of the devil’s lies and deception. Satan’s goal is to draw people away from the truth of God and replace it with sinful, perverse ideologies. It is up to Christians to take the truth of God out into the world and combat the devil’s lies. No more hiding inside our church walls. We must get equipped with a Bible-based worldview and bring the light of God to a world lost in darkness.
