Although we live in this country as individuals, we are a nation, and as a nation, we can choose life or death. Our system allows us to vote on laws. This same system, however, also allows individuals to challenge laws and force the judicial branch to rule for all of us.
The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage affects people as individuals, but it is far from being a matter of personal opinion. As believers who value God’s Word, we now have to decide if we will stand with what we believe or if we will accept or even just tolerate what has been decided for our nation. God created the institution of marriage in Genesis, and He gave us—the body of Christ—the responsibility to stand against any attack on it and all other Christian influence in this nation.
God’s voice on the earth is the church—His people. We all have a voice, and we need to use it collectively in order to be heard. We need to remember that it’s not hate to tell a person that what they’re doing is destructive to them and other people. The Word says that “love…rejoices with the truth” (1 Cor. 13:6, New International Version). We need a united voice to combat encroaching ungodliness in our nation. God is not the author of confusion, so we need to protect future generations from the confusion and pain this is bringing to people’s lives.
Many Christians are grieved by the new ruling on gay marriage, as well as the long-standing law allowing abortion. They want to do something but don’t know what. In light of what has happened, I believe that the Lord has inspired me to write a godly response. I call it “The Declaration of Dependence upon God and His Holy Bible.” I want to give Christians an opportunity to express their adherence to the Holy Scriptures on these matters. This Declaration will demonstrate our collective strength.
I know these are difficult times, but the church needs you! You have a sphere of influence. There are people around you who are confused, and the media can’t provide them with godly answers.
