Whenever a social issue of the day—such as same-sex marriage—gets confusing, we can go back to the Bible on the matter, where God reveals His heart. When people don’t know or understand what Scripture says—or if they just reject it outright—moral issues like homosexual marriage can end up destroying their lives. In the face of this reality, it’s sad to say that an increasing number of Christians are approving of gay marriage.
The first appearance and application of something in the Bible is indicative of God’s original intent. This is what’s called the Law of First Mention. One of the first things God established was marriage between one man and one woman. Look at how Adam responded after Eve was introduced to him:
This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Genesis 2:23
The Bible then goes on to say, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Gen. 2:24). So, the first mention of marriage in the Bible is clearly defined, and God blessed it (Gen. 1:26-28). Therefore, according to the Law of First Mention, God’s intent for marriage has been established here.
The Bible also says, in Romans 1:26-27, that people are naturally born heterosexual:
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: [27] And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
When the natural order God established is perverted, violators really do receive the recompense, or fruit, of that perversion, which statistics have proven. A study in the United Kingdom has revealed that homosexuals are about 50% more likely to suffer from depression and engage in substance abuse than the rest of the populations. Some would argue that this is caused by society’s lack of acceptance of homosexuality, but the statistics on health for gays and lesbians do not improve even in more accepting environments. Partner violence also scores higher in homosexual and lesbian couples than with traditional married couples (Bureau of Justice Statistics).

This is just one way the body of Christ can respond to the ungodliness plaguing our nation.
