Lesson 1 - Outline
| 1. | We are three-part beings: spirit, soul, and body.
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thess. 5:23, emphasis mine).
| A. | Spirit – Our innermost part. | |
| B. | Soul – Our mental, emotional part. Includes: mind, will, emotions, and conscience. Often called “personality.” | |
| C. | Body – Our physical part. | |
| 2. | You can feel both your body and your soul, but your spirit cannot be accessed in any natural way.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit (John 3:6).
| A. | No direct connection between spirit and flesh (flesh = soul and body). | |
| B. | Can’t contact your spirit through your emotions or physical body. | |
| 3. | Understanding spirit, soul, and body unlocks the spirit realm so you can experience who you are and what you have in Christ. | |
| 4. | God’s Word is the only accurate way to perceive the spirit realm.
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life (John 6:63).
| A. | God’s Word is spirit and life. | |
| B. | God’s Word reveals spiritual reality. | |
| 5. | God’s Word is a spiritual mirror.
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty [God’s Word—specifically the New Testament], and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed (James 1:23-25, brackets mine).
| A. | God’s Word perfectly reflects who you are in the spirit. | |
| B. | Trust the spiritual reality you see in the Word. | |
